Faux patent leather fabric is difficult to choose, and anyone telling you otherwise is just lying to you because of the following:
- It’s not very resistant
- It’s expensive
- It’s difficult to work with
- And it’s difficult to maintain into a good condition
And that’s why choosing the right faux patent leather fabric can be very challenging.
Why are faux patent leather fabrics not very resistant?
In order to get the distinctive polished look, different chemicals and different processes have to be taken into consideration, and this can have terrible consequences on the faux leather fabric resistance and durability.
What about the price?
Unfortunately, faux patent leather fabric can be very expensive in comparison to other faux leather fabrics, mainly because to make one yard of patent faux leather fabric, a lot of time, energy, chemicals etc. Are needed and this of course cost money, so, no wonder such fabric is expensive.
Is it durable?
From my experience, faux patent leather fabric isn’t the best fabric when it comes to durability and strength, and this is due to the polished look it has, it makes it very weak and susceptible to cracking and peeling.
How can you maintain faux patent leather fabric in a good condition?
It’s difficult, the only thing you can do is to avoid exposing it to heat sources, extreme UV rays and other damaging chemicals, other than this, applying a good faux leather conditioner from time to time seems to help a little.
