I keep receiving many questions about cleaning faux leather, and unfortunately, most people don’t seem to be aware of the right techniques to do so, and this is more noticeable when dealing with faux leather pillows, especially the black ones, that’s why I’m going to share with you some amazing techniques to not only clean them correctly, but to also make them stain resistant!
Indeed, the technique I’m going to share with you today is perfect for making your faux leather pillows stain resistant, and it’s also amazing at making them highly durable, in other words, they will not crack so easily and show tears and other problems very quickly.
The first step you need to always do whenever you are dealing with faux leather pillows is to dry them!
By drying them, I simply mean that you should get rid of as much moisture in them as possible, and to do so, there is one viable technique I always use, and it’s the following:
Open a window on a dry day, put your faux leather pillows near it, and let them breathe for as much as five hours; it’s perfect for getting rid of most of the moisture.

This technique is very important because, as you may already know, people are going to use faux leather pillows and the moisture and heat from our skin is going to impregnate the faux leather fabric, in other words, it’s going to absorb the moisture and retain it, and this will cause internal damages which are going to become external with time, cracks and peels.
This technique is a must do because if you don’t use it, you are going to shorten the lifespan of your faux leather pillows dramatically!
The second technique is to use the proper chemicals to clean them.
And when I’m talking about the proper chemicals, I should tell you that you should stay away from alcohol products, especially alcohol drinks and beverages! Yes, some people still use them to clean their upholstery items, even though it’s very damaging and extremely hurtful for the faux leather fabric, detergents, every kind, and bleach and other cleaning products.
These chemicals must be avoided as much as possible as they are very devastating and also extremely damaging to faux leather.
Then, what to use?
From my experience as a faux leather expert, I know that the best “chemical” to clean faux leather is warm water! Believe it or not, it’s very safe and also extremely friendly to the fabric.
Just apply some few drops and clean with a dry piece of cloth, it’s amazing.
And don’t forget to put your black faux leather pillows to dry for at least five hours, as shown before, after doing this.
