Let me share with you some very important things you must avoid at all costs when you are wearing a faux leather coat, they can be extremely devastating and also very damaging to the fabric, in other words, it’s going to start peeling and cracking very soon.
The first thing, and probably the most important one, as always, is to avoid using heat.
And here, I’m not talking about sunlight, although I always advise my readers to avoid exposing their faux leather objects to it as much as possible, however, you are wearing a faux leather coats, it must go out and be exposed to this element, right! But what I’m talking about is direct heat sources.
Remember that you are dealing with a faux leather fabric, in other words, it’s a kind of plastic, and as you may already know, it’s very sensitive to heat and huge changes in temperature.
That’s why, when you are near a heat source, it’s going to damage your faux leather coat tremendously, and by heat sources, I mean chimneys, ovens, cookers, and even heat radiators etc. in fact, you should avoid anything that’s hot as much as possible because it can be the kiss of death to your faux leather coat.
The second thing to avoid is spilling alcohol.
I’m not going to tell you to stop drinking alcohol in order to keep your faux leather coat looking good, but what I’m going to tell you is to be careful when you are having some, if you spill it on your faux leather coat, it’s going to attack the fabric and weaken it, and very soon, you will notice patches appearing on it and even cracks and peels after some few months.
From my experience, as a faux leather artisan, I know that alcohol can be very dangerous to faux leather fabrics, even in tiny amounts.
That’s why you have to stay away from it as much as possible.
For all your leather and faux leather items, I highly recommend Saddle soap. Click here to try it!
And if you spill some by mistake, the first thing you need to do is to take a dry cloth and wipe gently, then, use a few drops of warm water to get rid of the remaining alcohol on your faux leather coat.
